Job summary

The Judson Center in Wayne and Oakland Counties is seeking a dedicated Job Coach to support adults with developmental disabilities in community employment. You will train individuals at their workplaces and help employers adapt roles and environments for better performance.

Responsibilities include monitoring progress, reporting outcomes, educating teams, and advocating for participants. Travel to multiple site locations and flexible hours are common, with emphasis on person-centered supports

Qualifications

  • Experience with people with developmental disabilities or in a related field.
  • Knowledge of ADA guidelines and types of disabilities.
  • Knowledge of workforce development practices for people with disabilities.
  • Experience in Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, or Workforce Development.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services.

Responsibilities

  • Record and monitor consumers' productivity and reporting.
  • Ensure work performed adheres to job specifications.
  • Conduct job and task analyses to determine elements to be learned.
  • Identify learning barriers and determine suitable training methods.
  • Follow up by gathering information on work performance and supports.
  • Educate employer and co-workers in supervision, training, communication and support.
  • Evaluate consumer needs to improve job performance.
  • Communicate effectively to meet employer expectations.
  • Maintain case records and progress reporting per agency standards.
  • Provide advocacy to protect rights of individuals seeking employment.
  • Advocate for individuals at speaking engagements and with employers.
  • Attend required trainings and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Vocational Services Program, located in Wayne and Oakland Counties, provides job training and placement for adults with developmental disabilities and physical impairments. The goal of the program is to introduce these adults into the competitive job market.

TheJob Coachassists the consumer at their place of employment. To provide support for people with disabilities in community employment and community empowerment through job coaching and ongoing skills development, and assumes the responsibility for implementing appropriate plans. The Job Coach will train people placed into supported employment positions and assist employers in modification of job descriptions, restructuring of job duties or work environment changes which better accommodate the job performance needs of each individual.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Record and monitor individual consumers' productivity, ensure accurate and timely reporting
  • Assure that work performed adheres to job specifications
  • Conduct job and task analyses to determine basic elements of task(s) to be learned and performed by supported employees
  • Identify possible learning barriers and determine the most suitable training method for each task
  • Follow up by gathering information on individuals work performance and facilitate natural supports
  • Educate employer and co-workers in the supervision, training, communication and support of the individual
  • Evaluate consumer and assess needs that result in successful level of job performance
  • Communicate effectively and assure quality expected by employers
  • Maintain case records and progress reporting systems in compliance with agency standards concerning progress on goals, vocational training, and behavior deviations
  • Provide advocacy support services to protect the rights of individuals seeking supported employment
  • Strive to create awareness to the training and employment capabilities of individuals with disabilities
  • Advocate for individuals with disabilities at speaking engagements, as well as with employers
  • Participates in required trainings.
  • Attend all scheduled team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities or in a related field
  • Knowledge of ADA guidelines and types of disabilities
  • Knowledge of workforce development practices for people with disabilities including customized employment
  • Experience in Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, and or Workforce Development
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License, appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.
Working Conditions:
  • Generally an office environment with frequent meetings at multiple site locations
  • Ability to travel and attend meetings and functions at various hours, including early morning, evenings and weekends is required.
  • Job travel, utilizing personal vehicle with mileage
  • Job requires working with a variety of consumer behaviors including aggression
Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, walk, stand, sit, communicate verbally and in writing, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Close vision requirements due to computer work. Regular, predictable attendance is required. The employee has the potential to encounter unpredictable and aggressive consumers. The position has mostly an inside work environment and occasional outside work with exposure to weather conditions.
