Job summary

Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies seeks a Job Coach to train individuals in work habits and skills. You will model professional behavior, interact with participants and employers, and support program goals with supervision from a Job Coach Supervisor.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, six months related experience, basic computer literacy (Word/Access/Excel), and background clearances. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Clearances: Able to obtain required background checks (Act 151, state/federal).
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within program.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.

Job Purpose

To provide Training in work habits and work skills to individuals who are receiving services at Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies.

Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Experience: This position requires six months of paid or volunteer experience working with people with physical disabilities or older adults.
  • Computer proficiency: Basic computer literacy including Word, Access, and Excel
  • Clearances: Must be able to obtain acceptable results for required background checks, including Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check and Department of Human Services- FBI Fingerprints.
  • Exclusion Report: Employee will be screened on an ongoing monthly basis to determine if he/she has been excluded from participation in federal healthcare programs. If exclusions from participation in federal healthcare programs occur, employee will be precluded from employment in any federally funded healthcare program operated by Goodwill.
  • Other: A Job Coach must have a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record and dependable transportation. The Job Coach must have an operating telephone, so that he/she may be contacted quickly by Goodwill when necessary.

  • Received: Direct supervision from the Job Coach Supervisor with autonomy to perform duties in line with agency policies.
  • Exercised: None.
Key Skills and Duties
  • Serve as a role model to participants to whom Goodwill is teaching work behaviors, grooming, and social behaviors in the workplace.
  • Must interact appropriately and effectively with participants and employers assigned to him/her.
  • Must interact in an appropriate manner with the community promoting a positive image of Goodwill at all times.
  • Must work congenially and effectively with other employees.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be extremely dependable in attendance and punctuality.
  • Must complete the Basic Employment Services Certificate of Achievement and/or Discovery and Customized Employment Process Training within one year of hire.
  • Must have the ability to learn and use acceptable and effective techniques for training and interacting with agency participants.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening hours and weekends.
  • Ability to do prolonged standing and walking up to 8 hrs.
  • Ability to do frequent bending, stooping, stretching, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits.
  • Must follow company policies and safety procedures as well as ensuring that customers/clients under his/her supervision follow the same.
  • Must complete CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Capable of conforming to the high standard of behavior expected of all staff.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Attend and participate in program/team/review meetings for general purposes and for specific participants.
  • Report to the work site as a Job Coach, at the participant’s competitive employment or paid work‑experience site. Prepare a site and task analysis for the job and provide systematic task/behavior instructions.
  • Promote and adhere to the elements of the compliance program, operating within the laws, rules, and regulations required. Report any non‑compliance issues to your supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer.
  • Report any participant allegation of abuse and neglect to the Employment Specialist immediately; if the Employment Specialist is not available, the Job Coach must inform another Employment Specialist or the Coordinator of Community Employment Services immediately.
  • Provide supervision and hands‑on training of agency participants assigned to the Job Coach. This training includes teaching each participant to perform specific work tasks, and teaching the participant good work behaviors and social behaviors appropriate to a work setting. (Training may take the form of verbal instruction, demonstration of the task, or other methods which are appropriate to the situation.)
  • Provide encouragement, praise, verbal prompts and other forms of reinforcement to participants to assist them in developing or strengthening acceptable work and social skills as they work. Correcting inappropriate behaviors within guidelines set by Goodwill for all participants and provided by the participant’s Employment Specialist.
  • Through training, supervision, and inspection, ensuring that all work performed by Goodwill participants is done to the quality standards of the participant’s employer and of Goodwill.
  • Communicate frequently with the Employment Specialists. Provide information regarding the participant’s work and behaviors, any significant or unusual incidents, and any other information in which the Employment Specialist or Coordinator may request. Document and submit required information in a professional and timely manner.
  • Monitor participant’s performance. Suggesting modifications to the task, which will allow a participant to learn new tasks or be more productive, and suggesting different training techniques or goals for participants with whom he/she works.
  • Follow Goodwill’s Confidentiality Policy regarding participants and other sensitive agency information. Assist participants in job matching, identifying and analyzing jobs.
  • Determine and foster natural supports. Transfer supervision and support to co-workers at the work site.
  • Facilitate group instruction, classes and job club as needed.
  • Transport trainees/participants to and from job sites when directed by supervisor.
  • Operate agency vehicles in a safe manner, within local traffic laws, and within reasonable care at all time.
  • The Job Coach may, on request, perform other functions for the benefit of the agency. These other functions may be considered non‑essential to the position.
