Job summary

OSM Thome Limited is hiring a J-Lay/VLS Control Room Operator for offshore fleet operations. The role involves operating the J-Lay tower and VLS from the control room, ensuring safe installation of the product and clear reporting on status and issues.

The position requires experience with J-Lay/MLS/Vertical Lay systems, fluency in English, and adherence to safety procedures. Rotation is 35/35 days on/off with worldwide travel and 12-hour shifts. Contract is 12 months, renewable.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as J-Lay Tower/MLS/Vertical Lay System Operator.
• IHC Vertical Lay System experience is required.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Operate the J-Lay tower and VLS from the control room or local consoles, ensuring safe handling of the product.
• Keep the 1st Assistant informed of construction status and potential issues; report abnormal conditions or lay parameters.
• Report malfunctions and alarms to mechanical/electrical teams for verification and intervention as needed.
• Comply with Saipem QHSE policy and safety procedures to perform activities safely.
• Report near misses and incidents to the 1st Assistant.
• Participate in Tool Box Talks, JSA, and Risk Assessments as required.
• Adhere to the Permit-to-work system and ensure proper handovers at shift changes.
• Maintain a detailed log of all activities from JLT/VLS control rooms.
• Assist Field engineer in monitoring JLT and VLS activities as required.
• Report to the 1st Assistant.

• Position: JLT/VLS Control Room Operator.


• Project: Offshore Fleet.


• Location: Worldwide.


• Rotation: 35/35 days on/off.


• Salary: Consolidated monthly, paid only when working not when on leave.


• Overtime: Applicable.


• Working days/ hours: 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.


• Contract start: TBC .


• Contract duration: 12 months (renewable).


• Insurances: Provided by the Company.


• Travel: According to Corporate Standards, Prepaid Economy class ticket at beginning, end of CNT and for each work leave rotation cycle.


• Employer: Our client, a drilling and construction contractor.

Requirements / Qualifications / Competence:

• Previous experience working as J-lay Tower Operator/ MLS Operator (Multi-lay System Operator)/ Vertical Lay System Operator/ Control Room Operator.


• IHC Vertical Lay System experience.


• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Tasks:

• Under the direction of the 1st Assistant and the Offshore Construction Manager, operate the J-Lay tower and/or the VLS from the control room (or on local consolles where applicable), including operation of all associated equipment, to ensure a safe handling of the product being installed.


• Within own remit, ensure that the 1st Assistant is kept fully informed of construction status and potential problems, including reporting of any abnormal conditions or lay parameters.


• Within own remit, report malfunctions and alarms to the mechanical and/or electrical team for verification and intervention as applicable.


• Ensure the compliance with the standard determinated by Saipem QHSE Policy and safety procedures, in order to perform the activity in a safe manner.


• Report near misses and incidents to the 1st Assistant.


• Participate to Tool Box Talks, JSA and Risk Assessments as required.


• Within own remit, ensure that the Permit-to-work system is correctly adhered to and respected.


• Ensure that an adequate hand-over is carried out at the end and beginning of each shift.


• Ensure that a detailed log is kept of the activities carried out from the JLT / VLS control room.


• Assist the Field engineer in the monitoring of JLT and VLS activities as required.


• Report to the 1st Assistant.
