Job summary

Jamestown Healing Clinic seeks a Urinalysis (UA) Technician to join a multidisciplinary team. You will collect urine samples (same-gender observer as required), process orders, and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR to support substance use disorder treatment.

The role emphasizes careful specimen handling, confidentiality, and collaboration with providers and counselors. Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM–2:00 PM shift, with focus on patient support and clinic operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to complete employer-provided training.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and understand diverse patient contexts.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Observe collection of urine samples with same-gender observer as required by protocol.
  • Monitor and track drug control testing with confidentiality.
  • Process laboratory orders and post results to providers in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary UA restroom.
  • Maintain records in the EHR of urine/test submissions and update patient records.

Job description

The Jamestown Healing Clinic (JHC) is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Urinalysis (UA) Technician to join our integrated healthcare team. This role is essential in supporting patients receiving substance use disorder treatment through accurate specimen collection, laboratory processing, and administrative support.As a UA Technician, you will work alongside providers, counselors, and healthcare professionals in a collaborative clinic environment that integrates primary care, dental services, behavioral health, and opioid use disorder treatment.Enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday schedule (5:30 AM–2:00 PM), allowing for excellent work-life balance while making a meaningful impact in the lives of our patients.Essential FunctionsObserve collection of urine samples from clients of the same gender in accordance with established procedures for substance abuse testing protocol.Monitor and track the process of drug control testing while adhering to strict confidentiality.Process laboratory orders and post results for providers in a timely manner while maintaining proper and efficient communication with appropriate staff.Consistently ensure a clean and sanitary UA restroom.Assist and address all client concerns and questions regarding the UA process.Maintain ordering of all testing supplies on a regular basis.Strictly adhere to JHC standard operating procedures and workflow in handling collections, samples, and information to ensure accuracy and consistency.Maintain records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) of urine and/or other test submissions; update patient records as necessary to ensure accuracy.Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct.Process all urinalysis documentation for scanning and provide case management support to counselors.Cross-train for other JHC positions.Adhere to all JHC policies and procedures, including standards for safety, the Occupational Exposure Control Plan, and HIPAA.Perform additional duties as assigned.Requirements**This position requires direct observation of urine collections. Consistent with applicable law, the successful candidate must be able to perform same-sex observed collections, for FEMALE patients**High School Diploma or equivalent.Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures; experience processing, managing files, and maintaining accurate records.Knowledge of medical terminology.CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to complete employer-provided training upon hire.Knowledge of substance use disorders and their effects on individuals, families, and communities.Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHRs).Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and understand the social and cultural context of patients, including the impact of trauma, historical, family, community, and personal experiences on wellness and recovery.Understanding of and adherence to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR Part 2).Computer proficiency and experience with data entry.Ability to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.Must uphold all current vaccine requirements for employment.Valid driver's license with the ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.Preferred QualificationsAssociate's degree.Experience in business administration or office management.Previous experience working with patients with substance use disorders and/or in a primary care setting.Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated initiative with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.American Indian/Alaska Native hiring preferences apply.Physical Requirements/Working ConditionsRegular Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM.Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted.Physical ability to access all areas of the property applicable to the position.Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, climb, squat, twist, and reach throughout the workday without restriction.Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.Must be able to work in a fast-paced, busy, and sometimes stressful environment while maintaining professionalism and meeting deadlines.Why Join Jamestown Healing Clinic?At Jamestown Healing Clinic, you'll become part of a mission-driven team dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our community through compassionate, integrated care.
