Job summary

Responsibilities

• Coaching and player development: design age-appropriate training and provide skill instruction.
• Program administration: coordinate practices, game schedules and equipment with the Activities Director.
• Game day responsibilities: lead warm-ups, in-game decisions, and post-game feedback.
• Recruitment and retention: recruit and retain student-athletes for the program.
• Mentorship and leadership: serve as a positive role model and mentor to coaches.
• Communication: keep players, parents, and administrators informed about activities and expectations.

Junior High Softball - Head Coach

Overview: The Junior High Softball Head Coach at Danville Community School District is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the softball program for junior high students. The coach will develop training programs, promote teamwork, and ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes. The coach will be responsible for developing student-athletes both on and off the field, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting sportsmanship and skill development.

Qualifications:

• Valid Iowa Coaching License required
• Previous coaching experience (preferred, but not required)
• Knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, and coaching techniques
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes
• Commitment to promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and player development

Responsibilities:

• Coaching and Player Development:
  • Design and implement effective and age-appropriate training programs.
  • Provide skill instruction and development for individuals and the team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages personal and team growth.
  • Develop and implement strategies and tactics.
• Program Administration:
  • Collaborate with the Activities Director to ensure compliance with school and district policies.
  • Organize and coordinate all aspects of the Junior High Softball program, including practices and game schedules.
  • Manage equipment inventory and ensure the proper maintenance of facilities and report any needs/requests to DCSD Activities Director
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
• Game Day Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate pre-game preparations, including warm-ups and strategy discussions.
  • Manage in-game decision-making and substitutions
  • Provide constructive feedback to players during and after games.
• Recruitment and Retention:
  • Recruit and retain talented student-athletes for the softball program.
• Mentorship and Leadership:
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and character development.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to assistant coaches.
  • Foster a sense of teamwork, discipline, and dedication among players.
• Communication:
  • Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, and DCSD administrators.
  • Regularly update and inform about team activities, schedules, and expectations.
