Job summary

Heritage Auctions in Dallas, TX seeks a Property & Consignment Specialist with a GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma to evaluate property, acquire consignments, build client relationships, and generate leads for auction catalogs.

You will research and authenticate jewelry and property, market lots to clients, travel for consignments as needed, and participate in previews and auctions. A bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in a major auction house or estate jewelry dealer are preferred.

Qualifications

• GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma is required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• 5+ years in a major auction house or as an estate jewelry dealer preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate property and establish auction estimates.
• Acquire consignments through Heritage Auctions and generated leads.
• Research and authenticate property.
• Market lots in auctions to various clients.
• Travel as needed to meet with clients and review consignments.
• Participate in auction previews and final auctions.
• Conduct formal appraisals for fair market value and replacement value.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for evaluating property, acquiring consignments, building relationships, generating and responding to leads, among other duties.

COMPENSATION:

Commensurate based on experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate property and establish auction estimates.
• Acquire consignments through HA and individually generated leads.
• Research and authenticate property.
• Market lots in auctions to various clients.
• Contribute to the expansion of the client database.
• Answer inquiries before, during, and after the auction.
• Travel as needed to meet with clients and review the property for potential consignment.
• Actively participate in auction previews and final auctions.
• Knowledge required to conduct formal, written appraisals for fair market value and retail replacement purposes.
• Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years experience in a major auction house preferred and/or as a commercial dealerfocusing on estate jewelry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
