Job summary

Lynker is seeking a Support Scientist for JEDI Data Assimilation Transition to Operations to support the National Weather Service's Office of Modeling and Development. The role focuses on developing, testing, and evaluating JEDI components for use in global NWP applications and the UFS, with emphasis on data assimilation technologies.

You will collaborate with OMD scientists and external partners to transition research to operations, implement observation modeling and QC/bias correction, and

Qualifications

• Knowledge of data assimilation techniques (variational-based and/or ensemble methods).
• Knowledge of geophysical modeling and experience running advanced NWP models.
• Experience with FORTRAN, Python, and/or C++ in UNIX environments.
• Good oral and written English communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, evaluation, testing, and transition of JEDI-based developments for replacement of current assimilation infrastructure (GSI-based).
• Transition observation modeling, quality control and bias correction to JEDI.
• Develop and support atmospheric model interface within the JEDI infrastructure.
• Test and evaluate JEDI-based algorithms for operational NWP applications.
• Coordinate JEDI-related development activities with other OMD developers.
• Utilize JEDI infrastructure to explore data assimilation research for future transition-to-operations.
• Other duties as assigned.
