Job summary

Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, OH seeks a part-time jazz instructor to provide foundational instruction in jazz and contemporary music through classes, workshops, and ensembles.

The role emphasizes age-appropriate curriculum development, assessment of student progress, and collaboration with colleagues to align with college initiatives. Summer session hours reflect flexible scheduling, Monday–Friday as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in music, music education, and/or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of effective strategies for integrating students with varying stages of music and jazz/contemporary music education pedagogy
• Ability to assess and grade the progress of students
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Experience in Music Software, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel

Responsibilities

• Develop and present curriculum that provides students with an experience in the art form that is age appropriate and challenges students to achieve at the highest level
• Work with students from diverse backgrounds to educate and improve skills
• Assess student’s progress by grading assignments
• Organize and present a culminating event that represents the quality of work undertaken over the course of the semester
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and/or modify curriculum as needed to meet changing industry trends and college initiatives
