Job summary

Smart Start in Grapevine, TX is seeking a software engineer to join our IT team on a full-time, hybrid basis. You will contribute to the design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance of our Java-based applications and in-house software solutions.

Ideal candidates have at least four years of professional software development experience, familiarity with J2EE, ORM tools, SQL, and a collaborative mindset ready to tackle performance and security challenges.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four (4) years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience may substitute.
• Experience with J2EE application servers, and EJBs required.
• Experience with an ORM (Hibernate, JPA, Eclipselink, etc) required.
• Experience using Java Swing preferred.
• HubSpot experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Networking, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IIS, FTP, Firewalls preferred.
• Demonstrable experience using AI for development preferred.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to read and write clear and understandable instructions.
• Willing to travel less than 5%.
• Must demonstrate excellent organization, prioritization, follow up and time management skills.
• Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills within a technical environment.

Responsibilities

• Design solutions with Java and related technologies in collaboration with the development team.
• Gather requirements with other departments and document proposed designs.
• Coordinate with IT staff to identify sources of degraded performance and implement fixes.
• Conduct application security audits and address vulnerabilities.
• Create and maintain documentation for Java and Web applications and deployment processes.
• Assist SQL DBAs with application tuning and access to SQL servers.
• Troubleshoot network, application, and OS issues affecting the applications.
• Work independently on assigned projects with minimal guidance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
