Job summary

Programmers.io is seeking a Performance Engineer to lead the definition of SLOs, budgets, and latency/throughput targets for distributed services. You will architect tracing strategies across Dynatrace, AWS X-Ray, and other tools, and perform in-depth analyses using heaps, flame graphs, and network traces.

Qualifications

• Experience defining SLOs, budgets and latency/throughput targets for distributed systems.
• Proven ability to design and drive comprehensive tracing strategies (Dynatrace, AWS X-Ray, etc.).
• Skilled in deep-dive performance analysis using heap dumps, thread dumps, flame graphs, GC logs and traces.
• Experience reviewing architectures for performance risks and bottlenecks.
• Proven track record leading RCAs for performance incidents in prod and pre-prod.
• Ability to develop capacity models and performance baselines across cloud environments.

• Conduct and lead root-cause analysis for performance incidents in production and pre-production environments.
• Develop capacity models and performance baselines for services running across cloud environments.

• Architect and champion comprehensive distributed tracing strategies (Dynatrace, AWS X-Ray, etc.).
• Analyse application, platform, and cloud behaviour using deep-dive techniques such as heap dumps, thread dumps, flame graphs, GC logs, network traces, and storage I/O profiling.

Areas of Expertise:

• Application Layer: Spring Boot internals, JVM tuning, thread/heap management, concurrency debugging, GC optimization
• Container Runtime: PCF, Docker, container resource limits, CPU throttling, memory pressure
• Networking: Service-to-service hops, TLS overhead, DNS, routing, load balancer configs (F5, Nginx, ALB/NLB), service mesh performance
• Storage: Latency, IOPS constraints, distributed file system behaviour
• Caching & Middleware: Redis, Hazelcast, NATS, Kafka, RabbitMQ configuration and throughput tuning
• Cloud Layer: AWS compute/storage/network performance, regional latency, cross-cloud traffic patterns
