BrickRed Systems is seeking an experienced Java Developer to design, develop, and deploy secure, scalable backend applications using Java 11+, Spring Boot, and microservices.

You will build and consume RESTful APIs, implement security with OAuth2/JWT, optimize database access with JPA/Hibernate, and support production systems. Experience with AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor is highly valued in our collaborative Agile environment.

About The Role

As a Java Developer, you will contribute to the architecture and delivery of backend services built with Java 11 or later, Spring Boot, and the Spring Framework. You will develop and consume RESTful APIs, implement application security, optimize database access, and support dependable microservices. The role requires practical experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor as part of real‑world development workflows. You will also take part in technical discussions, code reviews, sprint planning, testing, and production support, making independent decisions while working closely with teammates and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least seven years of professional experience with Java 11 or later and Spring Boot or Spring Framework, including Spring Security, OAuth2, and JWT.
• At least seven years of experience designing RESTful APIs and working with microservices architecture, backend protocols, and common design patterns.
• At least five years of experience with SQL, database design, and JPA/Hibernate.
• Hands‑on experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or a comparable AI coding assistant in development workflows.
• Strong knowledge of object‑oriented programming, SOLID principles, secure coding, API authentication and authorization, and exception handling.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito; working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker.
• Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, communication, and technical writing skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile environment.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. Exposure to MongoDB is beneficial.

Preferred experience includes AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform; Apache Kafka or other distributed messaging systems; Kubernetes; RabbitMQ or Amazon SQS; gRPC; and observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or Grafana. Experience supporting production applications, conducting root cause analysis, contributing to engineering automation, or working in Agile/Scrum teams is also valued.

• Integrate messaging and asynchronous processing solutions as required by system needs.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, sprint planning, testing, and collaborative delivery activities.
• Investigate application defects and production incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive improvements.
• Improve service performance, reliability, maintainability, and resource utilization while applying AI coding tools thoughtfully and reviewing generated output for quality and security.
