Job summary

Jobtailor in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a software engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain core claims systems across claims intake, adjudication, and payment processing.

You will build Java applications, create and consume RESTful APIs, work with SQL Server, and participate in agile teams. Strong communication, independence, and collaboration are essential; in-office presence is required at least 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent IT experience.
• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Experience developing in Java.
• Experience creating and consuming APIs.
• Experience with SQL Server.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and independently.
• Experience with GitHub.
• Experience with JIRA.
• Excellent research and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to collaborate with teams at all levels.
• Prior claims experience preferred.
• Prior Securian Financial experience preferred.
• Experience developing in JavaScript preferred.
• Experience with AWS preferred.
• Must work in-office a minimum of 3 days per week within commutable distance (90 minutes).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions for Core Claims systems across multiple markets.
• Build and enhance Java-based applications and services.
• Develop, consume, and support RESTful APIs.
• Write, optimize, and maintain SQL Server queries and data access logic.
• Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, quality engineers, and other engineers in an agile environment.
• Participate in code reviews for readability, maintainability, performance, and security.
• Support production applications by troubleshooting issues and performing root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to technical modernization and process improvements.
• Use GitHub for source control and JIRA for work tracking, estimation, and sprint planning.
• Communicate technical concepts and design decisions to stakeholders.
