Job summary

Securian Financial Group is hiring a full-time software engineer for the Core Claims team in downtown St Paul. The role requires full-stack capabilities, with strong Java skills and API experience, in an environment that values collaboration and continuous learning.

You will design and maintain Java-based solutions, build RESTful APIs, and optimize SQL Server queries while partnering with product owners and QA in an agile setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field of study or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Experience developing specifically in Java
• Experience creating and consuming APIs
• Experience with SQL Server
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to learn quickly and independently
• Experience with Github
• Experience with JIRA

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting Core Claims systems across multiple markets.
• Build and enhance Java-based applications and services following engineering standards and best practices.
• Develop, consume, and support RESTful APIs used by internal and external systems.
• Write, optimize, and maintain SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and data access logic.
• Collaborate with product owner, business analysts, QA, and engineers in an agile environment.
• Contribute to code reviews ensuring readability, maintainability, performance, and security.
• Support production applications including troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Participate in continuous improvement, modernization, and adoption of new tools/patterns.
• Use GitHub for source control and JIRA for work tracking and planning.
• Communicate technical concepts and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
