Job summary

The Archdiocese of San Antonio is seeking a part-time Janitor to clean, sanitize, and maintain parish church facilities. The role involves cleaning rooms, bathrooms, and common areas, dusting, polishing, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Schedule is Thursday or occasionally Fridays, totaling 6 hours per week. The position requires basic literacy, prior cleaning experience, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in cleaning including dusting, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
• Dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
• Organize items and tidy up spaces as requested.
• Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors.
• Remove trash.
• Replenish restroom supplies.
• Report maintenance issues or safety hazards.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ensure security of issued keys and buildings, turn off lights and set thermostats.
• Follow safety training and protocols daily.

Summary

The Janitor will clean, sanitize and maintain areas by providing cleaning services for the parish church.

Position Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
• Dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
• As requested, organize items and tidy up spaces.
• Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors.
• Removes trash.
• Replenish restroom supplies.
• Ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
• Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Maintain the security of issued keys, secure buildings, turn off lights and set thermostats.
• Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.
• Any other duties assigned by priest or parochial vicar.

Preferred Qualifications

• Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in cleaning including dusting, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming.

Minimum Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Ability to communicate with various levels of staff
• Complete a safe environment course and pass criminal background check
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards
• Ability to resolve and reduce conflict.

Qualifications

1. Should possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Prior custodian / janitorial experience preferred.

1. Spend 80-90% of work time standing/ squatting/ lifting/ kneeling doing a wide variety of moderate physical activity.

Work Environment

1. Relate well, communicate professionally and courteously with staff, volunteers, parishioners, children.
