Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Chicago seeks a dependable Janitorial & Facilities team member to keep the Center for Social Justice + City Mission clean, organized, and safe. You will support events, deliveries, and facility needs to directly aid the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities include light maintenance, restocking, and driving a Salvation Army vehicle for pickups in the Chicago metro area. Must lift up to 50 pounds and work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to speak, write, and understand English for effective communication with leadership and facilities personnel.

Responsibilities

• Report maintenance issues to CSJ+CM Director.
• Assist with light maintenance (hanging pictures, changing bulbs).
• Help set up and tear down events and move furniture or heavy items.
• Restock supplies and perform spot cleaning of kitchens, reception areas, restrooms, and offices.
• Perform routine interior and exterior window cleaning.

Compensation Range: $21.02 to $23.36/hourly, based on experience

Job Objective:

The objective of this position is to provide janitorial support of the Center for Social Justice + City Mission (CSJ+CM), facility.

Essential Job Functions:

• Report all maintenance-related issues to the CSJ+CM Director and Officer-in-Charge
• Address light maintenance needs (hanging pictures, replacing light bulbs, etc.)
• Assist with event set up and tear down of furniture, displays, etc.
• Assist in moving furniture, boxes, and other heavy equipment.
• Restock supplies in the facility. Spot-clean the facility including the kitchen, catering pantry, reception area, conference rooms, training rooms, and bathrooms.
• Perform routine cleaning of interior and exterior windows.
• Keep janitor closet clean and organized.
• Maintain exterior of property, including removal of debris and disposal of items in dumpster.
• Drive a Salvation Army vehicle to pick up supplies and make deliveries, primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, certifications, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Certificates:

High School diploma or equivalent and must be able to obtain/maintain a clear MVR record for driving Salvation Army vehicles.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-year of janitorial experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Proper use of small hand tools, flooring & carpet cleaning equipment.
• Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and facilities personnel.
• Self-motivated, able to work under minimal supervision with great attention to detail.

OR - Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

Travel:

• Chicago Metropolitan Area up to 2 times per month.
• Valid driver's license required

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements may include:

• Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds multiple times per week.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to bend, squat, climb stairs and ladders, reach above shoulder level, crouch, push and pull.
• Must have visual acuity

Working Conditions:

• Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, and solvents.
• Work is performed in a typical office or residential environment.
