Position SummaryThe Janitorial Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and organized food manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in supporting food safety, employee safety, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SQF/Food Safety standards by ensuring production, warehouse, office, restroom, breakroom, and common areas remain clean and inspection-ready at all times. The Janitorial Technician must work independently, follow established sanitation procedures, and support a culture of cleanliness and continuous improvement throughout the facility.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFacility Cleaning & SanitationClean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.Sweep, mop, scrub, and maintain floors throughout the facility.Vacuum carpeted areas and clean floor mats as needed.Remove trash, recyclables, and waste materials from designated collection points.Maintain cleanliness of entrances, walkways, and exterior areas surrounding the facility.Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, handrails, tables, vending machines, and shared equipment.Restock restroom and breakroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, sanitizer, and cleaning materials.Food Manufacturing & GMP SupportFollow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, and sanitation procedures.Maintain sanitary conditions in production-adjacent areas to support food safety compliance.Assist with sanitation preparation activities before audits, inspections, and customer visits.Report any sanitation concerns, pest activity, facility damage, or food safety risks immediately to management.Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and utilized according to SDS requirements.Facility InspectionsConduct routine facility cleanliness inspections and identify areas requiring attention.Perform documented floor and facility inspections throughout the shift to ensure cleanliness standards are maintained.Address safety hazards such as spills, debris, trip hazards, or unsanitary conditions immediately.Support corrective actions resulting from audits, inspections, or sanitation findings.Equipment & Supply ManagementOperate janitorial equipment including floor scrubbers, vacuums, mops, pressure washers, and other cleaning tools.Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervision of replenishment needs.Ensure janitorial closets and storage areas remain organized and compliant with safety standards.Maintain equipment in safe working condition and report maintenance issues promptly.Safety ResponsibilitiesFollow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).Comply with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, lockout/tagout awareness, and chemical handling procedures.Participate in safety meetings and required training programs.Promote a safe work environment and immediately report unsafe conditions.Additional ResponsibilitiesSupport special cleaning projects and deep-cleaning activities.Assist other departments during facility events, audits, or operational needs.Perform additional duties as assigned by management.QualificationsRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.Minimum 1 year of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, sanitation, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.Ability to work independently with limited supervision.Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards.Ability to read and understand cleaning procedures, safety instructions, and chemical labels.Reliable attendance and punctuality.Ability to communicate effectively with employees and management.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience in a food manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment.Knowledge of GMPs, food safety practices, and sanitation programs.Experience operating floor scrubbers, pressure washers, or industrial cleaning equipment.Experience preparing facilities for food safety or quality audits.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a 10-12 hour shift.Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead.Ability to work in varying temperatures throughout the facility.Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and janitorial equipment.Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks while maintaining quality standards.Core CompetenciesAttention to DetailAccountabilityFood Safety AwarenessReliabilitySafety Focused MindsetTime ManagementTeamworkContinuous ImprovementProfessionalismOrganization Skills
