Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) is seeking an experienced maintenance professional in Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for keeping exteriors, common areas, vacant units, sidewalks, and alleyways of the property clean and safe. This position will also be expected to assist in emergency responses and other types of basic maintenance when necessary. Maintenance workers must be customer service focused and are expected to know and uphold safety policies while on the job.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following:
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Is on call for emergency duty.
Is familiar with power, water, and gas turnoffs, clean out traps, fire extinguishers, and fire systems.
Knows emergency numbers (i.e., police, fire department, manager, maintenance supervisor).
Attends staff and/or resident meetings as required.
Assists with miscellaneous social program activities (i.e., set-up, pick-ups, clean-ups, etc.).
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory duties.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The janitors perform their work in a residential apartment setting. While primarily responsible for the cleaning of public areas and waiting areas, they may encounter tenants. May be required to deal with difficult people; expected to handle residents and visitors with calmness, diplomacy, and good social skills.
Position experiences interruptions and shifting priorities.
The janitor must be willing and able to work outdoors and indoors in cold, hot, wet, humid, smelly, dirty, and clean work environments to include garden, alley, parking lots, basement, roof, and office areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: required to stand; walk; use hands and reach with hands and arms; ability to lift, bend, squat, climb, and crawl repeatedly throughout the day and effectively communicate; The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. The employees will be using a variety of hand and power tools, chemicals, and paints. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Regular, predictable attendance and punctuality are imperative job functions. Must be able to work scheduled hours including occasional evening and weekend work.
