Qualifications

• Strong customer service, organization, and communication skills.
• Must provide personal hand tools.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills may be required.
• Must maintain union certifications as required.

Responsibilities

• Cleans hallways, common areas, vacant units, offices, parking areas, sidewalks, and alleyways.
• Cares for property exteriors including lawn care, snow removal, window cleaning, and trash pickup.
• Performs light maintenance and basic plumbing/appliance troubleshooting.
• Assists with painting and replacing light bulbs or detector batteries.
• Reports maintenance concerns and safety issues promptly.
• Operates cleaning equipment, lawn machinery, hand tools, and power tools safely.
• Takes part in emergency/on-call duties as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) is seeking an experienced Helper C to support our CHA property in Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept properties while assisting with basic maintenance and emergency needs. Regular travel between HHDC properties is required.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Pay Rate: $22.82 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Cleans hallways, common areas, vacant units, offices, parking areas, sidewalks, and alleyways.
• Maintains property exteriors through lawn care, snow removal, window cleaning, leaf blowing, trash pickup, and sanitation.
• Performs light maintenance, including basic plumbing and appliance troubleshooting.
• Assists with painting, replacing light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, and other minor repairs.
• Reports maintenance concerns, property damage, and safety issues immediately.
• Safely operates cleaning equipment, lawn machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
• Participates in emergency/on-call duties as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous janitorial or maintenance experience.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Basic plumbing and mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to safely operate lawn machinery and power tools.
• Strong customer service, organization, and communication skills.
• Must provide required personal hand tools.
