Job summary

The Salvation Army Kansas City is seeking a part-time janitorial assistant to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming office and building spaces. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, restrooms, trash, minor maintenance, lawn care, snow removal, and assisting with donations and pantry restocking.

Reliability, ability to work with diverse groups, and coordination with a supervisor to ensure daily operations run smoothly are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: Janitorial and maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Certifications/Licenses: None.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, restrooms, and office space.
• Empty all trash.
• Provide minor building maintenance and painting as needed.
• Notify management of major repairs, safety or security issues.
• Advise supervisor of janitorial and supply needs.
• Provide routine outside maintenance and lawn care as assigned.
• Clean windows, furniture, and floors on schedule.
• Set up furniture for meetings and assist with donations/inventory.
• Assist with pantry restocking and seasonal activities.

Job description

Job Objective:

Maintain property and grounds accordance with acceptable standards of safety, cleanliness and appearance. Properties include building, grounds and equipment serving the building.

Essential Functions:

• Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, stairs, restrooms and office space


• Empty all trash


• Provide minor building maintenance, minor painting, and other related maintenance activities


• Inspect and notify management concerning needs for major repairs, safety or security issues


• Advise direct supervisor of janitorial and building supply needs


• Provide routine outside maintenance. Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk. Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers as assigned


• Follow schedule for cleaning windows, furniture, and floors polishing


• Set up furniture for meetings as required


• Assist with unloading and put away of any donations received


• Assist with restocking pantry when monthly order arrives.


• Assist with seasonal activities and assistance

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Janitorial and maintenance experience preferred but not required

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:

• Use of basic hand tools

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does have authority to assign a nd check work of AARP participants and volunteers. This position may recommend employment status changes to a supervisor, but not make disciplinary decisions and will not formally evaluate performance of other employees. (Lead/Shift Lead)

Physical Requirements:

Include standing, walking, climbing, and kneeling for extended periods of time; lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.
