Job summary

Swanson Group’s Roseburg General Plant & Overhead is seeking a Janitor to maintain cleanliness of the sawmill, planer, lunchrooms, restrooms and offices. The role requires adherence to ADA essential functions and proper cleaning procedures to ensure a safe environment for the next workday.

Responsibilities include cleaning bathrooms, lunchrooms, and offices, restocking supplies, and following safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE usage.

Qualifications

• Attentive to detail; knowledge of cleaning procedures and supplies.
• Understand safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination; reading and speaking to communicate safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Clean sawmill bathrooms, maintenance shop bathrooms, and planter bathrooms; sanitize toilets, mop floors, refill supplies.
• Clean sawmill and planer lunchrooms; disinfect tables, mop floors, clean microwaves, restock supplies.
• Clean offices (maintenance, sawmill, penthouse, planer); sweep, disinfect surfaces, empty trash, restock from warehouse.

Position Title: Janitor

Reports to: TBD

Department: Roseburg General Plant & Overhead

Wage: Level 2

Position Purpose: The primary purpose of the Janitor is to maintain the cleanliness of Swanson Group’s Sawmill, Planer lunchrooms, restrooms and offices to ensure a clean environment for the next workday.

Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Sawmill, Planer & Mill Offices

1. Clean the sawmill bathrooms, maintenance shop bathrooms, and the planer bathrooms: Clean and sanitize toilets and urinals. Sweep and mop floors. Replace and refill paper products as needed. Fill soap dispenser as needed. Empty trash and put in dumpster. Bring supplies from warehouse.
2. Clean sawmill lunchroom and planer lunchroom: Clean lunchroom. Sweep and mop floors. Replace and refill paper products as needed. Wash down and disinfect tables and surfaces. Clean out microwaves. Fill soap dispenser as needed. Empty trash and put in dumpster. Bring supplies from warehouse.
3. Clean maintenance office, sawmill office, penthouse office, and planer office: Sweep floors.Wash down and disinfect tables and surfaces. Clean out microwaves. Empty trash and put in dumpster. Bring supplies from warehouse.

Non-Essential Functions*

These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and Plant Manager.

Working Environment: Inside 50%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 50%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber gloves. (4) Approved Footwear (5) Visibility Vest.

Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.

Skills: Must be attentive to detail, have firm knowledge of cleaning procedures and supplies. Understand safe use of cleaning chemicals. Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tag out procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
