Job summary

Central Arizona Shelter Services, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain a clean, sanitary shelter environment for residents in Downtown Phoenix.

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role requiring reliability and attention to detail. The Custodian cleans dorms, bathrooms, showers, and common areas, handles biohazard cleanup with proper PPE, and supports safety protocols while working across shifts.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a shelter, healthcare, nursing home, or skilled nursing environment is highly preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, including varied days of the week.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize dorms, bathrooms, showers, and communal areas.
• Perform biohazard cleanup with appropriate PPE.
• Sweep, mop, dust, polish windows, clean cabinets, and maintain office areas.
• Monitor and restock cleaning supplies as needed.
• Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently, thoroughly, and according to schedule.
• Adapt to daily operational needs and pitch in wherever necessary.
• Follow all safety and infection control protocols.

About Us:
We provide safe, clean, and supportive shelter environments for 600 men and women overcoming homelessness in Downtown Phoenix. We are seeking a dedicated Custodian to help maintain a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for our residents. This is a physically demanding, hands‑on role requiring reliability, attention to detail, and a positive, can‑do attitude.

Available shifts are:

• Wed to Sun: 1pm - 10pm


• Mon to Fri: 7am - 4pm


• 2 Positions available for Sun to Thurs: 7am - 4pm

Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of our congregate shelter, including dorms, showers, offices, and communal spaces. This role requires working in both men’s and women’s occupied dorms and handling biohazard materials (urine, feces, vomit, occasional blood) using proper PPE. The ideal candidate thrives in fast‑paced environments and understands the importance of creating a safe, clean, and dignified space for residents.
