Job summary

Allegan County is seeking a full-time janitor to maintain a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors. The position starts at $19.98 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits plan including medical, dental, vision, HSA options, life insurance, short-term disability, retirement contributions, tuition reimbursement, generous PTO and holidays, plus fitness center access.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in custodial services; maintenance/repair of building and mechanical systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial equipment.
• Dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings, windows and fixtures; restrooms stocked and disinfected.
• May supervise inmate trustees and perform minor repairs to equipment and plumbing.
• Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning products and secure building before departure.

Job Summary

The janitor position is responsible for maintaining a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe.

Starting Wage: $19.98 per hour, full time

Responsibilities and Duties

• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
• Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. Washing windows inside and outside.
• Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas. May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• May also sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
• Empties wastebaskets and removes other debris.
• Cleans and disinfects sinks, faucets, urinals, stools, showers and other fixtures in restrooms. Restocks all restrooms with towels, tissue and soap.
• May assign work to and supervise inmate trustees assigned to custodial tasks.
• Performs minor repairs to mechanical equipment, plumbing and various other items.
• Ensures proper use and storage of chemical cleaning products.
• Conducts safety checks to ensure all doors and windows are locked and building is secure before departure.

Education

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Experience

1. Math skills necessary to measure chemicals and cleaning solutions and reading skills necessary to read instructions, safety materials and government regulations.
2. One to two (1-2) years of experience in custodial services. Prefer at least one (1) year prior experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems.
