PURPOSE
Under general supervision from the Jail Registrar Supervisor, records bookings and releases for the corrections division of the Summit County Sheriff's Office. Updates charges, new bookings and inmate release information into the Jail Management System (JMS).
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of secondary education, supplemented by coursework in bookkeeping, knowledge of agency legal terminology, corrections and court system, or equivalent experience or training. Any combination of training or work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed above.
DUTIES
- Records booking and release information into Jail Management System (JMS) for each inmate booked into Summit County Jail.
- Ensures that each booked inmate is seen by the appropriate court (if applicable).
- Updates charge and court information in the JMS for each inmate as the information is received.
- Processes and calculates sentence information in the JMS for inmates sentenced to Summit County Jail.
- Prepares release paperwork for inmates scheduled for release due to serving all necessary time.
- Enters sentence information into the JMS for inmates sentenced to prison.
- Ensures that all release documents are accurate and accounted for prior to the release of an inmate.
- Prepares releases for the property deputy and shift commander to sign off on.
- Prepares inmate paperwork for inmates being transported to other jails due to population or security issues.
- Responds to inmates KITES through the electronic KITE system.
- Communicates with each court in regards to each inmates case for which they are incarcerated.
- Ensures that inmates who are scheduled to convey to prison are cleared to be conveyed.
- Communicates with other agencies/departments to schedule the transport of wanted inmates.
- Communicates with Oriana House and other alternative sentence programs to schedule the transportation of inmates to attend programming.
- Delivers various information to inmates for Adult Probation, Oriana House, etc...
- Answers phone calls for inmate information from various courts, departments and the public.
- Maintains an alphabetical file for all inmates in the Summit County Jail. This file contains all paperwork pertinent to the inmate's incarceration.
- Maintains an alphabetical file for all inmates released from the Summit County Jail for up to 3 months.
- Generate a morning report containing the current counts at Summit County Jail. Forwards them to appropriate personnel.
- Identify and screen sentenced inmates for placement into alternative housing.
- Expunges inmate records.
- Maintains communication with area hospitals reference furloughs.
- Prepares signature bonds and serves as a Clerk.
- Delivers signed bonds to courts.
- Prepare and maintain statistical information on inmates.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Obtain, verify and explain specialized Court Documents.
- Analyze and solve problems of an interpersonal and fiscal nature.
- Ability to move and lift files.
- Read and understand legal/court orders.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal in working with clients in person and on the telephone.
- Operate computer and keyboard.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook and Jail Management and KITE systems.
- Must possess a valid Ohio drivers licenses and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Tuesdays-Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; 8:00 am -4:00 pm Saturday
