Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must hold a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license.
• Must pass physical examination and drug screening.
• Must pass extensive criminal history/background checks.
• Must complete required training within twelve months of hire date.
• Must maintain a telephone (residence or cell).
• Must be willing to be in an on-call status.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, control and direct the movement of prisoners.
• Jail officers' intake, process, transport, and ensure safety and security of inmates, staff and the community.
• Officers may be assigned other duties in specialized jail areas.
