Job summary

CBH Medical in Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the medical department at Meherrin River Regional Jail. This full-time role offers a stable schedule, competitive benefits, and a unique clinical environment where corrections experience is valued.

You will assess patients, document encounters, administer medications, and provide leadership to nursing staff. Night shift 6:00 pm–6:30 am, with opportunities for professional education and growth.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed Registered Nurse in the state where duties are performed (Required)
• BLS/CPR Certification (Required)
• Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program; Baccalaureate degree preferred but not required
• Minimum two years of clinical experience

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and provide written assessments upon admission, during confinement, and at discharge
• Obtain health histories, summarize assessment data, and make triage decisions that are documented and communicated to the care team
• Develop and implement individualized treatment programs utilizing approved protocols as directed by the Medical Director
• Administer medications using proper techniques including IV therapy and all other approved routes; obtain diagnostic tests per physician orders
• Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered and refer patients to appropriate providers as needed
• Document all nursing encounters using SOAP charting and communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, correctional officers, and department heads
• Provide leadership to nursing staff, identify problems, and recommend improvements in patient care, procedures, and equipment
• Participate in quality assurance chart reviews, in-service education, and support all OSHA and employee safety programs
• Perform within the limits of the state practice act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and all CBH Medical policies and procedures
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
