Job summary

Suffolk County is seeking a Cook to perform routine cooking for large-scale meals in its correctional facilities under general supervision. The role includes supervising inmates and ensuring meals meet established menus prepared by the Jail Head Cook.

You will prepare meals for inmates and correctional personnel on a rotating schedule, with holidays. A high school diploma or GED and at least six months of large-scale food prep experience are required.

Job description

Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs routine cooking in the large production of meals at Suffolk County correctional facilities. Supervision is exercised over a number of inmates. Assignments follow set departmental policies and procedures, and menus are prepared by the Jail Head Cook. Performs institutional cooking for inmates two weeks Prepares and cooks food for a large number of correction personnel for two weeks. Must maintain security clearance to work in the Jail Oversees the inmates in preparing food IMPORTANT: This position has a rotating schedule encompassing 5 Days On, 3 Days Off, 5 Days On, 2 Days Off and will work Holidays The target salary for this position is $48,735 *This position does not offer relocation assistance at this time *Sponsorship is not available for this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) months of experience in the preparation of food on a large scale.
