Job summary

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board in Hampton, Virginia is seeking a Jail-Based Therapist to provide behavioral health and substance use treatment for individuals in the county jail MAT program. This full-time role helps people move from incarceration to community-based care.

You will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, provide individual and group counseling, coordinate discharge planning, and collaborate with jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to ensure

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
• One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting.
• Must be eligible for CSAC supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Complete behavioral health and substance use assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and recovery-focused education.
• Maintain timely documentation and electronic health records.
• Coordinate discharge planning and connect individuals with community-based behavioral health, recovery, and reentry services.
• Collaborate with the H-NNCSB Re-entry Coordinator, jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to support continuity of care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and support MAT/MOUD services as appropriate.

Skills

We are seeking a Jail-Based Therapist to provide behavioral health and substance use treatment services for individuals participating in the Hampton City Jail Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to support recovery, reduce barriers to successful reentry, and help individuals transition from incarceration to community-based care.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling
• One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting
• Must be eligible for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire
