Base pay range

$50.00/hr - $55.00/hr

Location: Remote

Our client, a global leader in technology-enabled risk, benefits, and claims management solutions, is seeking a Java (J2EE)/SQL Developer to join their team supporting a third-party vendor application within a large-scale claims enterprise environment. This is a remote contract role, initially for 8 to 12 months, with strong potential for extension based on performance and project scope.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build, and maintain Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications within a custom-built web platform.
• Create low-code, form-based screens for basic data collection and ensure captured data is accurately saved to the database.
• Collaborate with database developers to build and update stored procedures and support schema changes for newly created UI screens.
• Reverse-engineer functionality when needed due to limited access to third-party source code.
• Regularly enhance UI by adding tabs, fields, and new screens as part of six defined projects.
• Participate in twice-weekly standups with a collaborative team using a hybrid scrum/waterfall approach.
• Use Azure DevOps Boards to track project progress and task management (preferred).

Technical Requirements:

• 75% Java (J2EE) development experience—must be comfortable building and maintaining enterprise-grade web applications.
• 25% MS SQL Server—strong in stored procedures, schema design, and back-end logic.
• Experience working on on-premise hosted applications in secure enterprise settings.
• Familiarity with reverse engineering and supporting third-party vendor applications.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently (80% individual contributor) while collaborating effectively with a cross-functional team.
• Excellent communication skills — both written and verbal.
• Comfortable working in a structured yet collaborative environment.
• Experience in claims processing or enterprise systems is a plus.
