Job summary

Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston is seeking a Part-Time Transportation Assistant to provide safe, reliable non-emergency transport for Jewish seniors and special needs adults. You will transport participants to and from medical, personal care, and grocery visits with a focus on safety and courtesy.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, experience with seniors, excellent communication, and a clean driving record with a valid license.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner.
• Assist passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle.
• Read and interpret maps or use GPS to plan efficient routes.
• Keep the vehicle clean inside and outside.
• Ensure vehicle fuel level and maintenance are kept up to date.
• Check in with transportation scheduler daily.
• Report concerns regarding participants to staff.
• Report vehicle issues to supervisor.
• Facilitate casual conversations with clients.

Transport senior adults and individuals with a disability to and from medical, personal care and grocery store visits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. ADMINISTRATION

• 1. Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner;
• 2. Assist passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle;
• 3. Read and interpret maps provided by supervisor or use GPS on phone to plan the most efficient route service for participants.
• 4. Keep the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside;
• 5. Responsible for ensuring the vehicle(s) gas is always full and that vehicle maintenance is completed;

II. COMMUNICATION

• 1. Check in with transportation scheduler daily
• 2. Report to appropriate staff any concerns regarding participants
• 3. Report vehicle issues to supervisor
• 4. Facilitate casual conversations with clients

Qualifications

• 1. Minimum requirement of high school diploma or equivalent.
• 2. Experience with working with seniors.
• 3. Excellent communication skills. Able to interact professionally with all levels of internal and external personnel.
• 4. Must possess and maintain a safe driving record.
• 5. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• 6. Have a Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for passengers, clients, and the public.
• 7. Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for special events.
• 8. Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aides in member satisfaction and getting the job done.
