Job summary

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs in Chicago, IL is seeking a Volunteer Services Coordinator I for the Chicago Veterans Home. This independent, highly organized role will write job descriptions for assignments, assist in planning and organizing programs, and coordinate volunteer program performance to enhance service delivery for veterans and partners.

Minimum qualifications include a four-year college credential and at least six months of professional experience in volunteer services

  • Transports members to approved community outings and special events to support volunteer services.
  • Performs other duties as required within the scope of the listed duties.

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized, and detail-oriented VOLUNTEERSERVICESCOORDINATORI for the Chicago VA home located in Chicago, Illinois. This position will be responsible for a variety of services within the VA Home. Duties incluse writing job descriptions for assignments, assisting in planning and organizing progrmas, and coordinating and monitoring volunteer program performance. Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college.
  • Requires six months of professional experience in volunteer services program management, community organization or asocial science field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers working knowledge of principles and procedures in the development and utilization ofcommunity services in a volunteer services program.
  • Prefers working knowledge of methods of supervision, organization, and administration.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel management and the learningprocess as they relate to the recruitment, selection, placement, training, and retention of volunteers.
  • Prefers the ability to operate a personal computer, utilize relevant software, and navigate social media.
  • Prefers the ability to participate in planning and organizing programs for utilizing volunteer workers.
  • Prefers the ability to carry out an informational program for securing public support of volunteer services.
  • Prefers the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff personnel, community leaders, andthe public.
  • Requires the ability to present ideas accurately and effectively, orally and in writing.
