Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy IV Technician II to prepare and deliver IV admixtures and manage departmental inventory under pharmacist supervision. Responsibilities include ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and coordinating controlled substances in compliance with state and hospital regulations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with preference for Pharmacy Technician training and CPhT certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum required education: High School or GED.
• Preferred education: Pharmacy Technician training or equivalent.
• Experience: One year or more as Pharmacy Technician preferred.
• Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and be nationally certified (CPhT).

Responsibilities

• Prepare IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision and deliver to the correct clinical unit.
• Maintain IV admixture room inventory and order supplies.
• Notify pharmacy buyer of special drugs and supplies needed.
• Clean and organize IV room and laminar flow hoods per hospital policies.
• Provide records for charging/crediting purposes.
• Assist in providing statistics on discarded IVs monthly.
• Generate computer records for IV medication charts for nursing units.
• Process drug returns from clinical units and return unused medications to stock.
• Train new staff on IV admixture preparation and inventory control.
• Maintain computerized controlled drug inventory per state, federal, and hospital regulations.
• Order controlled drug inventory from wholesaler.
• Inventory narcotics monthly; perform audits and monthly pharmacy inspections.
• Prepare interdepartmental charge reports and annual inventory reports.
• Maintain up-to-date medication labeling in central pharmacy.
• Complete invoices as required by law.
• Attend required orientations and meetings; flexible scheduling for patient care.
