Job summary

South Texas Health System Edinburg is seeking Pharmacy Technicians/Trainees to support the pharmacy department under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role involves preparing and distributing medications, maintaining inventory and records, and following written procedures and applicable regulations.

Applicants should have hospital or IV experience preferred, a Texas State Pharmacy Technician Registration, and may pursue an ASHP IV certification or equivalent program within 180 days

Qualifications

• Two years hospital or 1 year IV experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable of and complies with laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy.
• Ability to set priorities, meets deadlines, solves problems, adapts to changes within the work environment.
• An aptitude for working with other health care professionals.
• Willing to travel between STHS facilities.
• Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

• Pharmacy Technicians/Trainees assist under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and records.
• They work in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations.
• They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Education

High School diploma or GED required

Associate’s Degree preferred

ASHP IV certification or ACPE/ASHP accredited program completion within 180 days of hire
