Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform under supervision a variety of technical duties related to preparing and dispensing medications according to standard procedures. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, Texas State Board of Pharmacy certification, and strong English communication skills; ASHP-accredited tech training is preferred.

One year of acute hospital pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Completed all continuing education requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Texas State Board of Pharmacy certification required
• ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues
• Good written and verbal communication skills required
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience
• One (1) year experience in an acute care hospital pharmacy strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Fill physician orders/prescriptions, medication carts, or stock requisitions.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.
• Answer telephones and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
• Enter charges and credits for patient medications.
• Enter medication orders/prescriptions into the pharmacy computer system.
• Provide technical support for automated equipment (Automated Dispensing Units).
• Maintain logs, records and other required documentation.
• File documentation in the appropriate location.
• Complete and document all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identify and replace outdated and unusable drugs.
• Monitor assigned quality improvement indicators of individual or departmental performance.
• Stock medications and supplies; package medications as required for dispensing.
• Prepare intravenous admixtures or other sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition).
• Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
• Keeps pharmacy equipment clean
• Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized
• Other duties as assigned
