ITS Operations Technician I monitors traffic via computerized surveillance and control equipment located within an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) managed area. Disseminates information to the public through various forms of communication. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities as well as the traveling public. Dispatches maintenance employees and alerts first responders via telephone, radio or other electronic means. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details but defers all unusual challenges to the Lead worker.
Advises the general public of traffic conditions through the use of computerized variable message signs, highway advisory radio and/or low frequency television broadcasts.
Disseminates traffic information through various communication devices to other governmental agencies located within the operations center and/or managed area.
Monitors traffic flow and conditions through the use of loop detector systems, closed circuit television systems and/or automated vehicle identification systems.
Updates traffic management data base.
Uses two-way radios to interact with other transportation and law enforcement agencies.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
2 years of experience in Traffic studies, analysis, computer ops, electronics, traffic management, telecommunication ops. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
