Job summary

NWABSD invites applications for an Ambler/Shungnak Itinerant School Counselor. The role supports NWABSD students with career education and pathways, traveling to remote villages to provide logistical, technical, and academic guidance in alignment with federal, state, and career standards.

The counselor will develop Individual Learning Plans, collaborate with local educators, and coordinate with post-secondary institutions and employers to create internships and experiential opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with valid Alaska Type A teaching certificate required.
• Four-year college degree required.
• Type 'A' Teaching Certificate required.
• Five years educational experience preferred.
• Successful experience working with Native American students; post-secondary/vocational education and CTE experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Travel to remote village schools; travel may entail overnight stays.
• Work with high school students to identify and develop meaningful career paths.
• Develop Individual Learning Plans based on academic progress and career pathways.
• Develop remediation plans for students as needed.
• Coordinate with post-secondary institutions, agencies, and employers to create internships and career opportunities.
• Identify funding sources for student career path plans.
• Coordinate logistics for ReadiSTAR sessions (applications, transportation, lodging, meals, and documents).
• Assist with ReadiSTAR field trips and cultural experiences.
• Develop CTE pathways and align courses with Perkins standards.
• Coordinate with state approval processes for courses.
