Job summary

City of Memphis is seeking a Communications Specialist for the IT Division to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy. You will draft newsletters, memos, and press releases for senior leadership and assist in creating training materials including QRGs for IT systems.

The role involves managing divisional information across social media channels, building relationships with advocates, and preparing PowerPoint decks for upper management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or closely related field.
  • Four (4) years professional experience in communications, training, or education.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office Suites and Microsoft Active Directory is required.
  • Experience in corporate, technical, or government communications and project management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy for the IT Division.
  • Draft content including newsletters, memos, press releases for senior leadership.
  • Assist with creation of training materials including Quick References Guides (QRGs).
  • Facilitate creation and distribution of divisional information using social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, and more).
  • Foster relationships with advocates and key persons.
  • Assist with creation of PowerPoint slide decks for upper management.
  • Manage files electronically using SharePoint sites and MS OneDrive.
  • Proofread and edit writing material.
  • Create and manipulate graphic material.

Typical Physical Demands

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate a computer and all basic office equipment.

Work is performed in an office environment which involves contact with the staff and management.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications , Marketing, Journalism or closely related field and four (4) years professional experience in communications, training, or education; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Working experience with Microsoft Office Suites and Microsoft Active Directory is required.Experience in corporate, technical, or government communications and project management is preferred.
