Contra Costa County's Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for individuals interested in a Health Education Specialist position. The Department has one current vacancy. The position will be assigned to the Family, Maternal and Child Health Division.
The Health Education Specialist is responsible for assisting with the implementation of educational and health promotion activities in their assigned department(s). The incumbent will be responsible for assisting program administrators and supervisors in planning, conducting and evaluating the health education and health prevention aspects of departmental programs; conferring with and advising staff on health education and preventive principles and the techniques of community organizations; assisting in encouraging interest and activity in the promotion of public and environmental health; reviewing publications for educational suitability and preparing visual aids and display materials; maintaining and distributing health education material to the staff and the general public; assisting with the assessment of community health needs; organizing and arranging for discussion groups on health issues; publicizing health programs and services through various media resources; evaluating and reporting on health education services and educational programs.
Applicants who are bilingual in Spanish are encouraged to apply. Applicants successfully passing the County language fluency examination may receive a $100.00 monthly differential, depending on assignment. The employment list established as a result of this examination may remain in effect for six (6) months.
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Health Services Administration, Social Work or a closely related field.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in a health services agency or program performing health promotion, health prevention, or community health education work.
Substitution: Four (4) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience as a Community Health Worker II for Contra Costa County and 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college coursework with at least 12 semester and 18 quarter units in health related coursework may be substituted for the required Bachelor's Degree.
