Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Support Specialist to provide frontline technical support for clinical and administrative systems within a fast-paced healthcare environment. This position combines traditional Tier 1 and Tier 2 desktop and systems support with healthcare-specific technologies, including EHR/EMR applications, clinical devices, Microsoft technologies, user-access management, networking, and IT security.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with physicians, nurses, administrative staff, vendors, and other end users where responsiveness, communication, and system availability are critical. This individual should be able to independently troubleshoot technical issues, prioritize competing requests, document resolutions, and accelerate complex problems appropriately.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for clinical and administrative applications.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, network connectivity, printers, servers, and integrated clinical equipment.
- Support Microsoft 365, Epic, Meditech, and other clinical applications.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktops, workstations, Workstations on Wheels (WoWs), badge readers, barcode scanners, printers, and peripherals.
- Respond quickly to technology issues affecting high-priority clinical and operational areas, including operating rooms and conference rooms.
- Monitor and maintain servers, virtual machines, cloud and local storage, and SaaS applications.
- Assist with software updates, patches, backups, and routine system maintenance.
- Manage employee onboarding, offboarding, and user access through Active Directory and Microsoft Azure/Entra.
- Create and maintain user accounts, profiles, permissions, and access controls.
- Manage service desk tickets from initial intake through resolution and escalating complex issues when appropriate.
- Support compliance with HIPAA, data privacy, and healthcare IT security requirements.
- Assist with security incidents and review access logs for potential irregularities.
- Support password, access-control, and cybersecurity policies.
- Develop user guides, procedures, technical documentation, and knowledge-base articles.
- Train end users on new software, system updates, and downtime procedures.
- Collaborate with departments and external vendors during system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and hardware relocations.
- Support IT initiatives such as new unit openings, technology deployments, and clinical workflow enhancements.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Previous professional IT support experience.
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with:
- Windows operating systems
- Desktop hardware and peripherals
- Software and business applications
- Microsoft 365
- User accounts and access management
- Basic networking and connectivity
- Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Azure/Entra.
- Experience working with ticketing or service desk systems.Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong customer-service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to independently prioritize multiple technical issues in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong organizational and technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous IT support experience within a hospital, healthcare, or clinical environment.
- Understanding of healthcare IT operations and clinical workflows.
- Experience supporting EHR/EMR and clinical platforms such as Epic, Meditech, Cerner, or PACS.
- Network connectivity and troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data‑security requirements.
- Experience supporting clinical hardware and integrated medical technology.
- Experience participating in system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and technology deployments.
