City of Plantation is seeking an IT Systems Manager to lead the Police Department's technology strategy and operations. You will supervise staff, oversee budgets, and drive secure, resilient IT services for emergency response and investigations.
The role requires expertise in public safety systems, CJIS security, project management, and vendor negotiations. You will collaborate with the IT Director and command staff to ensure mission-critical uptime and compliant technology infrastructure.
The IT Systems Manager is an exempt position responsible for the planning, administration, security, and operation of information technology systems supporting the Police Department's mission. This position manages the delivery of secure, reliable, and resilient technology services for sworn and civilian personnel, ensuring uninterrupted support for emergency response, criminal investigations, records management, communications, and public safety operations. The IT Systems Manager provides leadership for technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, cloud services, digital evidence systems, mobile computing, and criminal justice information systems, while ensuring compliance with the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy, CALEA accreditation standards, and applicable local government policies.
The employee in this classification supervises technical personnel, develops technology strategy, manages police technology projects, assists with technology budgets, and serves as the department's primary advisor on public safety technology initiatives. The employee is required to exercise initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines and receives direction from the Information Technology Director.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Considerable knowledge of enterprise-level information technology hardware and software management.
Considerable knowledge of public safety technology systems, including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS) and Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs).
Considerable knowledge of project management methodologies and practices.
Knowledge of the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and requirements applicable to criminal justice information systems.
Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards and best practices.
Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP).
Knowledge of government procurement processes, policies and regulations.
Knowledge of technology budgeting and budget administration.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize work assignments and work independently.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, Police Department command staff, City officials, vendors and outside agencies.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
Work is performed primarily in an office and technology environment, including data centers, equipment rooms, Police Department facilities and other City locations as required. This position requires the ability to work potentially demanding schedules, including extended or non-standard hours, as necessary to meet project timelines and support emergency response operations.
