Sr Security Engineer

Position Summary

Do you thrive on designing, building, configuring, and maintaining secure IT infrastructure? Do you enjoy serving as the primary Tier III troubleshooting point person for an organization’s IT systems? Then you may be a great fit for our Sr Security Engineer role in Chicago. This position is hybrid, offers work-from-home flexibility, and focuses on hybrid cloud solutions as part of Benesch’s infrastructure team.

Essential Functions

• Oversee the physical datacenter experience with virtualization/private cloud infrastructure.
• Manage rack design, cable management, redundancy, and growth planning.
• Maintain relationships with external vendors and cloud providers.
• Support premise-to-cloud migration, disaster recovery, and hybrid cloud management.
• Monitor, manage, and forecast changing requirements in on‑prem and cloud infrastructure, generating and tracking KPIs for system performance and availability.
• Design, configure, and maintain IT infrastructure hardware, cloud, and software, including Active Directory/GPOs, network infrastructure, VMware and Hyper‑V clusters, Microsoft 365, Azure, and other infrastructure applications such as configuration management, monitoring, VPN, and RDP.
• Partner with the security team on hardening, remediation, compliance with client and ISO requirements, and security controls assessments.
• Assist with system monitoring, review infrastructure and application logs, and verify configured technical controls.
• Manage server/system configuration and IP address management—build, manage, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot configuration management systems firm‑wide.
• Participate in the coordination, installation, testing, and technical support of local and wide‑area wired and wireless networks.
• Assist with deployment of new desktop and server operating systems and applications.
• Assist with distribution of updates and patches across systems.
• Provide Tier III support and troubleshooting for enterprise line‑of‑business applications.
• Evaluate, test, recommend, and implement specific software and network solutions.
• Develop and maintain complete and accurate documentation of network layouts, server hardware and software configurations, firewall and router configurations.
• Research, install, analyze, test, and evaluate applications, systems, policies, methodologies, processes, and procedures to ensure that the Firm’s server infrastructure and facilities meet the Firm’s expectations and Service Level Agreements for availability, performance, growth, and functionality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The IT Systems Engineer should have over seven years of experience in systems engineering or cloud administration, along with strong interpersonal and analytical skills. The role requires excellent customer service, effective communication, and the flexibility to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed. Candidates must be highly skilled in datacenter virtualization, hybrid cloud infrastructure, network switching, storage management, and virtualization clusters, with expertise in VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V/SCVMM, and SAN configuration. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Azure, Windows administration (Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Kerberos, Certificate Authority, IIS), Microsoft 365, Azure technologies, and identity and access management is essential. Certifications in relevant technologies are preferred. The position may involve up to 10% travel to other office locations.

Salary: $95,000 to $115,000 per year.
