The State of Alaska is seeking an IT System Administrator 2 in Juneau to serve as a systems architect for UI Benefits and UI Tax programs. You will analyze, configure, modify, and maintain enterprise systems, primarily with mainframe tools such as COBOL, CICS, and DB2.

ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS! The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Administrative Services, is recruiting for an IT System Administrator 2! No Cover Letter Required! This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 23. This position is located in Juneau. However, this position may be relocated within Alaska with necessary approvals where infrastructure allows.

What You Will Be Doing

The primary focus of this mainframe developer position is to act as a systems architect for the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) mission critical Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits and (UI) Tax programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, configuring, modifying, and maintaining multiple systems across the DOL Enterprise, coding bug fixes and enhancements primarily with Mainframe tools, Broadcom Gen, DB2, COBOL, CICS, SQL Server, tso, xTrace, GuardIEn and Team Foundation Server. The successful applicant should be completely proficient and control all aspects of the functional responsibilities of design and systems analysis.

This position is stationed at the Department of Labor & Workforce Development Building in Juneau, Alaska. The building is located along the waterfront, next to the Seawalk & Overstreet Park and there is plenty of employee parking.

Who We Are Looking For

• Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
• Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of the principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional and infrastructure requirements; includes translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches.
• Software Development: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Hardware: Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment.
• Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
• Operating Systems: Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
• Systems Integration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
• Systems Testing and Evaluation: Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing systems testing and evaluation procedures and technical characteristics of IT systems, including identifying critical operational issues.

Equivalent To Those Typically Gained By

Training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a similar field and professional experience in database, network, or system administration.

Salary Information

Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience, State of Alaska policy, Location, and Collective Bargaining Agreement(s).
