Job summary

Major Function

The purpose of this position is to perform technical and analytical work in completion of installation, troubleshooting, repairing and preventative maintenance on end users’ computers, peripherals and software. Employees in this classification perform at advanced level technical due to the vast and diverse knowledge required for the multiple applications, platforms and systems.

Essential Job Functions

1. Provide technical support to users by phone, remote access or in person.


2. Determine root cause of issues and communicate appropriately to internal and external customers.


3. Install personal computer hardware, peripherals and software for users, including updates, patches and configuration changes.


4. Responsible for trouble-shooting and problem resolution for hardware, operating systems and software applications.


5. Provide installation and update support after normal work hours when necessary.


6. Support users in various software applications, including training.


7. Effectively prioritize and manage multiple issues and requests as assigned.


8. Research and provide purchasing recommendations to Chief Information Officer upon request.


9. Advise management on situations that may require additional end user support or escalation.


10. Design and update various departmental forms.


11. Obtain and maintain educational requirements/certifications as requested by Chief Information Officer.


12. Maintain accurate inventory, asset information and various other asset records in accordance with County policy and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED supplemented by some college level course work or vocational training in computer science; some experience in computer networking; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required.

Physical Demand Requirements:

PHYSICAL DEMAND: MEDIUM

-50 pound maximum lifting.

-Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.

-If less lifting involved, will require significant walking/standing.

-Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.

-Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others.

-Physical demands are in excess of light work.
