Job summary

City of Forest Park is seeking an entry-level Office Associate - IT Support under general supervision of the Information Services Director. You will assist in configuring, updating and running day-to-day IT operations for the City’s network, computers and communications systems.

The role includes maintaining systems, setting up user accounts, diagnosing issues, monitoring backups and supporting security and disaster recovery efforts.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle after hire.
  • Must pass CJIS background check to access secure areas.

Job description

The entry level position of Office Associate - IT Support is under general supervision of the Information Services Director and performs detailed information technology duties. This position is responsible for assisting in configuring, updating and running the day to day operations of all of the City’s network, computer and communication systems.

  1. Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and communications systems.
  2. Repairs, replaces and upgrades computers and/or components and software, and integrates/monitors automated processes.
  3. Sets up and maintains user accounts and workstations.
  4. Troubleshoots hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  5. Provides documentation and technical specifications to City staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
  6. Develops expertise to train staff on new technologies.
  7. Monitors regular backup operations and assists with implementing appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  8. Provides technical support across the organization (which may be in person or remote), ensuring problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  9. Actively monitors system and security records/logs to spot underlying trends and potential issues.
  10. Assists with infrastructure capacity, storage planning, and database performance.
  11. Assists with development and implementation of IT strategy and plans for the City.
  1. Basic understanding of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  3. Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  4. Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices. In-depth knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  5. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  6. Excellent problem solving skills.
  7. Excellent ability to prioritize and an attention to detail.
  8. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively while developing and maintaining effective working relationships with associates, City officials and the general public.
  9. Ability to receive direction from superiors and then work independently on assigned tasks and continually report progress to the immediate supervisor.
  1. Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  2. Must have valid State of Ohio Drivers License and be able to operate a motor vehicle upon hire.
  3. Must be able to be insured by the City’s insurance carrier if the position requires driving.
  4. Must be able to pass a CJIS background check to access secure parts of the campus.
