Job Description: The Lead, Quality Engineering Performance, is responsible for leveraging deep knowledge of software quality assurance, quality engineering & automation, and enterprise software development best practices to lead a team of quality engineers and drive quality initiatives. The role focuses on ensuring the highest quality for IT deliverables, participating in the agile development process, building strong stakeholder relationships, and delivering features, enhancements and bug fixes with high quality that delights end users. It requires a strong focus on performance and data-driven quality, including hands-on experience with load and performance testing tools and the ability to analyze system behavior using SQL and data structures.
Responsibilities
- Manage the overall work for technically complex areas of testing, including test automation, performance and load testing, analytics and web services testing.
- Oversee performance and data-driven quality with hands-on experience in load and performance testing tools and SQL/data structure analysis.
- Collaborate with product management and application development/support teams to define test strategies, influence architecture, design deliverables and optimize capacity across the QE organization.
- Drive product quality and promote leading industry best practices to meet QE department goals and objectives.
- Lead a team of SQE professionals to improve software quality using standard software testing methodologies.
- Supervise QE staff and the preparation and delivery of test artifacts.
- Represent the QE organization through all phases of the SDLC and collaborate with other functional areas.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand project objectives, gather testing requirements, and provide leadership in client implementation projects.
- Provide sound leadership to QE and Application Development staff, manage workload, and collaborate with Product, Application Development, Application Support and PMO leadership to staff projects.
- Mentor QE staff to expand their technical horizon and contribute to defining and facilitating the System Development Lifecycle.
- Improve software development efficiency by adopting cost-effective automated testing tools.
- Manage testing artifacts for proper reuse, versioning, backups, organization and retention.
- Coordinate and facilitate test planning, design and execution sessions.
- Provide technical leadership in QE processes, tools and frameworks.
- Lead internal and external project teams to achieve milestones and deliverables.
- Conduct stakeholder meetings to gather requirements and assist business users with planning and conducting UAT.
- Provide balanced leadership to QE and Application Development staff and partner with leadership to staff projects.
- Mentor QE staff and assist in expanding technology horizons.
- Develop and manage QE metrics to measure performance and provide reports on defect profiles and test progress.
- Aid in planning and execution of product testing efforts and resources to meet delivery dates.
- Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and schedule adherence.
- Develop technology strategies aligned with the organization’s vision and objectives.
- Plan for change and implement flexible operational plans; ensure delivery of high-quality service and product through cross-department collaboration in IT.
- Develop and manage relationships to foster a culture of service and collaboration.
- Continuously reassess processes and adopt best QE practices as relevant to the organization.
- Lead change and adoption of new processes and technologies; set clear direction with measurable outcomes.
- Manage employee performance and resources to ensure effective work execution and staff development.
- Engage employees to maximize discretionary effort and develop a pipeline of talent.
- Plan, organize and coordinate various projects, programs and services and support all assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 8+ years of quality engineering and/or quality assurance experience for enterprise software products.
- Proven experience in building, executing and reporting on load and performance testing initiatives.
- 5+ years of experience in managing/leading quality teams in an onshore/offshore model.
- Passion for quality and for testing every line of code.
- Commitment to continuous education and improving code quality through collaboration with delivery teams.
- Strong ability to manage heavy workloads with multiple projects and interruptions.
- Broad experience in testing enterprise distributed systems is strongly desired.
- Strong time management skills with a history of meeting commitments.
- Very strong technical leadership and the ability to command respect at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to quickly understand business goals and requirements supported by technology solutions.
- Subject Matter Expert in Quality Assurance Test discipline.
- Strong grasp of API architecture and API testing (e.g., Postman).
- Experience managing development or testing automation of CRM/Salesforce applications.
- Experience with technologies such as Java, .NET, MS SQL Server, MySQL is a plus.
- Understanding of SDLC models (waterfall, iterative, agile) and QA processes/tools.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with QA metrics and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Educational degree required.
- 5+ years of QA/quality engineering experience for enterprise software products.
- Experience with load/performance testing tools (e.g., LoadRunner, JMeter, NeoLoad).
- Strong knowledge of data structures and SQL.
- Knowledge of automated testing suites is desirable.
- Knowledge of API testing (SoapUI or Postman).
- Experience with test management tools (Quality Center, Test Manager, Zephyr, etc.).
- Experience with bug tracking tools (Jira, TFS, Bugzilla, etc.).
Work Environment and Additional Information
Travel: 10%
Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week.
