The role offers a hybrid work setup with in-office time and collaborative culture.

For over 40 years, Nelnet has been serving its customers, associates, and communities.
The perks of working at Nelnet go beyond our benefits package. When you join the Nelnet team, you're part of a community invested in the success of each individual. That support comes through in our work, as we are united by our mission of creating opportunities for people where they live, learn, and work.
Responsible for software development contributions supporting a project-based diversification initiative - the design and delivery of a new AI-enabled workforce onboarding and case support platform for public-sector agencies - WREN. The initial project proposes the development of an AI-powered workforce onboarding, training, and case support platform for State Health and Human Services agencies, initially focused on Child Support Services, with the goal of improving how new frontline staff learn, gain confidence, and perform complex, high-stakes casework.
This role will contribute to the delivery of an MVP focused on onboarding and training workflows, decision support, and guided user experiences, starting on WREN and supporting its initial build until the product hands off to a long-term product team. At that point, the engineer will follow one of two tracks: continuing on with the ongoing support of WREN, or transitioning onto the MVP development team for a new product within New Business and Innovation.
Nelnet believes in a hybrid work environment. The standard hybrid work schedule includes 24 hours of in-office work each week, for associates that reside within 30 miles of an office. This is subject to change, based on manager discretion.
