Job summary

Kennesaw State University seeks an IT Project Delivery Director to lead enterprise-wide program and project delivery. You will own the delivery framework, standards, and continuous improvement across the institution to ensure programs and projects are executed consistently and deliver intended outcomes.

Responsibilities include maintaining PMI-aligned governance, defining success metrics, and mentoring managers to raise delivery maturity while collaborating with academic and technical leaders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information technology, engineering, or related field.
  • Seven (7) years leading complex projects and programs in a PMI-aligned environment.
  • PMI credentials such as PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP or other PMI credentials preferred.
  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Experience maturing delivery practices or PMO within higher education or similarly complex institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures alignment with PMI standards for scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholders.

Job Summary

Accountable for enterprise-wide excellence in IT program and project delivery. Owns the delivery framework, standards, and continuous improvement of IT program and project execution across the institution. Ensures that approved programs and projects are executed consistently, predictably, and in alignment with institutional standards and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Owns institutional standards for IT program and project delivery, including methodologies, quality controls, and delivery metrics
  • Ensures approved programs and projects are executed in alignment with PMI standards for scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholder management
  • Establishes and maintains scalable delivery frameworks that balance standardization with flexibility based on project size, complexity, and institutional context
  • Identifies delivery risks, issues, and constraints early and provides actionable mitigation strategies to sponsors and leadership
  • Partners with sponsors and business owners to define success metrics, outcomes, and benefits realization plans
  • Tracks delivery performance and benefits realization throughout the project and program lifecycle
  • Ensures post-implementation reviews are completed and that lessons learned are incorporated into delivery standards and practices
  • Leads continuous improvement of delivery processes, tools, templates, and execution practices
  • Use metrics, audits, retrospectives, and delivery reviews to improve predictability and delivery maturity
  • Mentors, coaches, and supports project and program managers to strengthen delivery capability and professional practice across the institution
  • Defines delivery competency models, role expectations, and career pathways aligned with process frameworks, in partnership with leadership
  • Serves as a trusted advisor on delivery feasibility, capacity planning, execution tradeoffs, and delivery readiness
  • Provides leadership with accurate delivery metrics, insights, and execution intelligence to support decision-making
  • Partners with functional, academic, and technical leaders to enable successful program and project outcomes across the institution

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in business, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
  • Required Experience
  • Seven (7) years of experience leading complex projects and programs in a PMI-aligned environment, with demonstrated accountability for delivery outcomes and standards, execution discipline and process improvement, mentoring project teams and delivery maturity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Program Management Professional (PgMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or other PMI credentials
  • Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
  • Preferred Experience
  • Experience building, standardizing, or maturing delivery practices or a Project Management Office (PMO) within a higher education or similarly complex institution
  • Demonstrated experience leading or enabling organizational change initiatives at scale
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring IT or other project delivery teams

  • Advanced knowledge of PMI frameworks, project and program management methodologies, and delivery governance
  • Strong understanding of benefits realization, outcome tracking, and post-implementation evaluation
  • Proven experience improving delivery maturity through process improvement, metrics, and quality management
  • SKILLS
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement across executive, academic, functional, and technical environments
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
  • Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
  • Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
