Job summary

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in Carson City seeks an IT Professional 3 to lead IT operations, manage Active Directory, and provide server and helpdesk support across divisions.

Under supervision, you will administer LAN/WAN, configure firewalls/routers/switches, and contribute to security, systems analysis, and documentation. This role supports multiple programs within NDCNR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, or closely related field with 3 years IT experience.
• Equivalent education/experience combination; 1 year at journey level or 1 year as IT Professional II in Nevada State service.

Job description

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State.

The NDCNR Bureau of Information Services (BITS) is recruiting for an IT Professional 3 located in our Carson City office. Information Technology (IT) Professionals supervise and support an IT Professional 2 and an IT Technician IV, manage active directory, maintain and administer asset management software, and provide all server support including server applications. Incumbents provide Tier 2 and 3 support for helpdesk issues including email and applications problems and record calls using the help desk application. Incumbents must be able to prioritize helpdesk tickets, emails, and phone calls based on level of support needed. Use utilities to check for network connectivity; and establish user rights. Under direct supervision and direction of the IT Manager 2, this position will provide LAN/WAN administration to include the Departments firewalls, routers, and network switches, including remote office equipment and connectivity.

Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others. Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization’s architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required. Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics. Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals. Perform related duties as assigned. Under general direction, incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups. This is a supervisory level for Computer Operations and the journey level for Information Security positions.
