Job summary

Governor’s Technology Office in Carson City, NV, seeks an IT professional to support the Network Transport Services Unit. The role maintains Aviat and Cisco IP/MPLS routers, switches, and the network monitoring system for a statewide microwave network.

Responsibilities include configuring hardware, software, documentation, and grant-related requirements. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in computer science or MIS and 2 years of relevant IT experience, or equivalent combinations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience navigating rugged terrain, operating specialized equipment in adverse conditions, and adhering to strict safety protocols to ensure reliable network operations under all circumstances is required.
• Experience in IT customer support is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others.
• Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization’s architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required.
• Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics.
• Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Under general supervision, incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower-level IT staff as assigned. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function.

Governor’s Technology Office – Network Transport Services Unit (Carson City, NV) Position is within the Network Transport Services Unit and will be located in Moundhouse. Maintains Aviat and Cisco IP/MPLS routers, switches, Network Monitoring System and servers, for a statewide enterprise microwave network. Administers microwave network management software, hardware, and servers as required.

Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Additional Position Requirement:
