Job description

The IT Principal Engineer is responsible for planning, deployment, administration, and advancement of application and system monitoring in an enterprise environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers and project teams.
  2. Meet with business partners, project managers, and vendor partners to determine project scope and vision, set system goals, identify and resolve system issues, and lead prioritization of build items.
  3. Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications to stakeholders to ensure understanding of issues and solutions.
  4. Identify and document business and functional requirements as determined by business partners and stakeholders.
  5. Define, elicit, and analyze existing and new system functions and processes, making recommendations to meet business goals and user needs.
  6. Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees across the organization within the area of expertise.
  7. Drive automation initiatives for log aggregation, anomaly detection, and performance optimization.
  8. Create and implement API integrations between various software systems.
  9. Gather and rationalize requirements, then develop data-driven solutions that meet business or internal requirements.
  10. Develop relationships with stakeholders at all levels to understand business drivers, current IT capabilities, products, service roadmaps, and IT operating models.
  11. Lead proof of concept (POC) development and make recommendations on adopting evolving technological trends.
  12. Maintain a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and over 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  13. Possess strong knowledge of monitoring frameworks, logging systems, and observability tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or others.
  14. Have working knowledge of native cloud services including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  15. Experience in building and supporting products & services in SaaS, IaaS, PaaS models, and platforms like AWS and Azure.
  16. Experience with Agile, continuous integration, and DevOps practices using tools like CodePipeline, Terraform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.
  17. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  18. Ability to influence peers and superiors in strategic solution directions.
  19. Capable of working comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with competing priorities.
