Job summary

PlanIT Group, LLC in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Network Engineer to monitor and support LAN and Wi‑Fi networks. The role requires extensive travel (50% or more) and on‑site work in Raleigh with a hybrid schedule (office 4 days a week).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years IT experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of applicable network experience.
• Experience with LAN/WAN technologies and architecture design.
• Experience with Ekahau or similar Wi‑Fi site survey tools.
• Must be able to obtain Position of Public Trust Clearance (US citizen or permanent resident).
• Must have resided in the US for the last 5 years.

Job Description

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support our client and perform LAN and Wi‑Fi monitoring and support. This individual will be expected to work independently or semi‑independently with a minimum of guidance or direction.

This position will require extensive travel - 50% or greater. When not travelling, resources will be required to be on‑site in Raleigh, NC. Currently allowing for hybrid work, reporting to the office 4 days a week. This hybrid schedule could change in the future. Teams will travel to sites across the country to perform site surveys, installation and upgrade of networks.

Responsibilities Will Include But Not Limited To

• Travel to remote sites for survey, installation and upgrade of network equipment.
• Tier 3 escalation point for complex LAN/Wireless issues escalated from Tier 2 engineers.
• Configure and support wireless systems.
• Architecture design, and systems implementation, of middle‑of‑row to core connectivity. IOS layer 2 and layer 3 configuration and support.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Tier 2 LAN Engineers.
• Design, implement, and manage LAN/Wireless infrastructure projects.
• Perform network performance monitoring and optimization.
• Develop and maintain network documentation and diagrams.
• Network design, and configuration of OSPF, EIGRP, RIP and Static routing solutions.
• Plan/schedule any upgrades, including any that may occur on weekends or during other off‑duty hours, and release necessary notifications to the field.
• Mitigate vulnerabilities affecting switches.
• Firewall and load balancing support.
• Provide Root Cause Analysis of any outage during established and authorized hardware refresh window.
• Review site designs for pathways and support systems, including multi‑floor pathways and penetrations for fiber optic cable and/or copper backbones.
• Use of Ekahau sidekick for site survey and planning
• Collaborate with other IT teams for integrated system solutions.
• Typically performs all functional duties independently.
• Create regular progress reports on project status.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years of IT work experience; Additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
• Minimum of 5 years of applicable network experience and support.
• Proven experience with Networking, troubleshooting and customer service.
• Expertise in LAN protocols, technologies, and architecture design.
• Experience with LAN design, implementation, and management, including deploying LAN solutions for large complex facilities.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
• Experience with Ekahau or other Wi‑Fi site survey and planning tools
• Capable of installing, configuring, operating, and supporting Cisco and other vendor network equipment and products. In addition, must be capable of determining whether additional measures are required beyond those provided by the infrastructure tools being deployed.
• Experience with other wireless solutions such as Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, and Fortinet.
• Experience performing switch acceptance for new field sites.
• Experience with site reviews for Cisco networks including circuit capacity, switch types, and IOS.
• Experience using direct measurements or design documents to advise the organization about infrastructure, reliability, and performance issues.
• Capable of configuring the networking parameters for operating systems and network devices.
• Capable of reading syslog output, sniffer logs, security logs and networking sections of application and operating system logs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance - US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) and must not have travelled outside the US for a combined total of 6 months or more in last 5 years.
• Must have resided in the US for the last 5 years.
